Toothaches and Pain

Mild sensitivity to hot/cold or sweets, is common and normal, but when this sensitivity becomes severe, consistent, and painful, this could be your body warning you that there is a problem. Some common causes of this pain include:
  • Tooth Decay
  • Abscessed Tooth (a bacterial infection inside of the tooth)
  • Tooth Fracture
  • Damaged Filling
  • Deep Cavities left untreated
When the pain is being caused by one or more of these things, a Root Canal or an Extraction are normally going to be your two options. As long as you are a good candidate, a Root Canal is a great option because it allows you to keep your original tooth, which is almost always a better long term choice. However, sometimes a tooth is not salvageable, and the only option is to remove it. With either option, you can be assured that you will be in good hands with our trained professionals here at Advanced Dental Care.

Sometimes people don't get the dental treatment they need due to fear of painful and uncomfortable procedures. Whether you need to have a tooth extracted, root canal treatment or other type of procedure done, Advanced Dental Care will do all we can to make your experience as pleasant as possible. We don't provide general anesthesia, but can use local anesthesia along with nitrous laughing gas to make you feel more comfortable.

Tooth Extractions

When a tooth is not salvageable, an extraction is a quick, simple, and affordable way to relieve pain and infection. Our doctors are able to perform simple extractions, root tip extractions(when the tooth breaks off at the gum line), and most wisdom teeth extractions. We do not offer general anesthesia (being "put under"), but we do offer local anesthesia, which is the numbing of the area that will be worked on. We also offer nitrous gas(more commonly known as laughing gas) which can help to calm your anxieties.

Extractions are a quick fix when faced with pain, however they are not a permanent solution. Although leaving an empty space in your smile is an option, we recommend that after having a tooth extracted, you consider the options for tooth replacement. By replacing the tooth, you will not only improve the appearance of your smile, but will also improve the functionality of your mouth and help prevent bone loss in the area.

Root Canals

The inside of each of your teeth is made up of an intricate bundle of nerves and vessels. These vital nerves and vessels provide nutrients and sensation to your teeth. Sometimes however, these nerves and vessels become infected and inflamed, causing pain. A root canal allows the removal of the inflamed nerve from inside of the tooth, and the disinfecting of the canal. We recommend a crown to be placed on the tooth within a few months of the procedure to help the tooth return to normal and to protect it from future infection.

Root Canals can be intimidating for many people, but when done by a trained and experienced professional at Advanced Dental Care, you can be assured that the treatment will be done efficiently and comfortably.
